The CX2030-0122 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff and supplied within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Combining a modular form factor with industrial I/O expansion, this unit serves as a compact control platform for PLC, motion, and HMI tasks in decentralized automation lines. Its passive cooling design suits cabinet mounting beside terminal blocks, and optional CX-bus slices allow users to scale fieldbus interfaces without altering the CPU section. The modular arrangement also allows compatible I/O terminals to be placed close to the controller, reducing the amount of field wiring required throughout a machine.
Processing tasks are handled by a 1.5 GHz CPU with a dual-core architecture; this arrangement allows real-time control threads to run in parallel with supervisory services without excessive context switching. The computing core is an Intel Core i7 2610UE, a low-power processor optimized for operation in a fanless enclosure. It is supported by 2 GB of DDR3 RAM for code execution and data buffering, while a 128 kB nonvolatile NOVRAM block preserves process variables during a sudden power loss. Mass storage is provided through an internal CFast slot that accepts cards with a minimum capacity of 40 GB, allowing the operating system and project files to coexist with trend archives. Even when both cores are fully utilized, the platform draws no more than 27 W, keeping thermal dissipation manageable inside control cabinets.
Field wiring terminates on a three-pin power connector that accepts a stabilized supply of 24 V DC. User peripherals can be attached through four USB 2.0 Type-A sockets, and each port delivers 500 mA for sensors, touchscreens, or service keys. Ethernet networking is provided by two RJ45 interfaces that support separate machine and plant-wide networks, while a DVI-I port drives local monitors for runtime visualization. The aluminum housing measures 144 × 99 × 91 mm, providing a compact footprint for crowded control cabinets. It carries an IP20 rating, which provides finger-safe protection against solid objects but requires an enclosure in areas exposed to dust or moisture.
