The CX2030-0115 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. As a DIN-rail-mounted controller, it combines central processing, fieldbus interfaces, and data storage so that machine builders can run PLC logic, axis coordination, and local visualization inside a single compact device. By integrating Windows with the TwinCAT runtime directly at the control-cabinet level, the unit eliminates the need for a separate rack PC and supports deterministic operation of industrial Ethernet networks.
Computation is handled by an Intel Core i7-2610UE processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The processor has 2 physical cores and supports four threads, allowing simultaneous execution of real-time tasks and background services. System memory is provisioned with 2 GB DDR3 RAM, giving sufficient workspace for sizable PLC projects and motion libraries. To retain critical variables during a power loss, the controller includes 128 kB of NOVRAM. External devices connect through four USB 2.0 ports rated at 500 mA each, while two Gigabit Ethernet ports, presented as 2 × RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, provide fast program downloads and remote diagnostics. The module withstands a dielectric strength of 500 V between the power supply and housing, helping protect connected circuits. A regulated 24 V DC input with a tolerance of -15% to +20% supplies the electronics.
In cabinet installations, the controller occupies 144 × 99 × 91 mm, so it fits beside standard I/O terminals without obstructing ventilation. The aluminum housing carries an IP20 protection rating, providing protection against finger contact while requiring an enclosure for moisture protection. Normal operation is permitted from -25 °C to +60 °C, allowing the controller to function across a broad range of industrial temperatures. Thermal management is simplified because maximum internal power dissipation is limited to 27 W. Clearly marked power and Ethernet connections make the field-wiring side easy to identify during installation and maintenance.
