The CX2020-0150 is an embedded PC module manufactured by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed for DIN-rail installation, it replaces a separate PLC, motion controller, and operator panel by hosting automation software on a single-board computer. The unit provides deterministic program execution and fieldbus management so that conveyors, packaging equipment, and assembly stations can be coordinated from inside the control cabinet without resorting to a panel-mount industrial PC.

The computing section is driven by a 1.4 GHz Intel Celeron 827E processor with a single core, giving deterministic cycle times for medium-sized control programs. It is complemented by 2 GB DDR3-RAM, allowing several PLC tasks and visualization processes to run concurrently, while 128 MB of shared graphics memory supports local HMI displays. A CFast slot supplies nonvolatile storage with a minimum capacity of 40 GB, enough for the operating system, TwinCAT project files, and logged data. Short-term process variables survive power loss via 128 kB of NOVRAM, and two Gigabit Ethernet ports handle EtherCAT or standard TCP/IP traffic. Despite these resources, the module draws only 21 W at full load, so control-cabinet thermal budgets are preserved.

The housing measures 144 × 99 × 91 mm and carries an IP20 rating, so it must be mounted in an enclosed panel for dust protection. Power is supplied through a 24 V DC feed, and the internal circuitry has up to 500 V dielectric strength between the supply and logic potential. Four front-side connectors provide 4 × USB 2.0 for service keyboards, external storage, or wireless adapters. The device includes one CPU core, no integrated TwinCAT runtime from the factory, and room for additional CX-bus modules to add fieldbus, serial, or PCIe Mini-Card functions.
