The CX1800-2047 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Within a control cabinet, it functions as the central PLC and HMI node, running fieldbus communication and user logic for automated machinery. Its role is to consolidate computing, networking, and I/O management on a DIN-rail device so that motion axes, discrete sensors, and process variables are coordinated in real time under TwinCAT-based control.
The unit operates from a 24 V DC supply and withstands transients up to 500 V of dielectric strength between power domains. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports provide network access at 2 × RJ45, 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, while four front-mounted ports deliver peripheral power and data through 4 × USB 2.0, 500 mA each. For backup of volatile variables, an integrated 1-second UPS buffers 1 MB on CFast. Local field wiring is attached through E-bus or K-bus terminals, and the backplane passes current for terminal electronics while also feeding actuators through the power contacts. When K-bus is selected, 2048 bytes of input and 2048 bytes of output process data are exchanged every cycle. The controller image resides on a removable CFast card, supplemented by a microSD slot for additional logging, and it executes TwinCAT 3 Runtime (XAR) for IEC 61131-3 programming and motion libraries.
A minimum CFast capacity of 40 GB is specified so historical trend files and large recipe sets can be stored without overruns. On the E-bus side, up to 65534 terminals may be addressed, scaling the system from a few points to plant-wide I/O. Security is enhanced by the hardware root of trust provided by fTPM 2.0, and the entire assembly carries an IP20 protection rating appropriate for enclosure-mounted electronics. This combination supports secure cabinet installation and allows the controller to manage distributed terminals together with local data logging.
