The CX1800-0201 system image is provided by Beckhoff for controllers in the CX Embedded PC Systems series. The image is intended for installation on compact, DIN-rail-mounted embedded PCs that handle PLC logic, motion sequences, and user interface functions in production lines. By supplying an integrated operating system, driver set, and recovery utilities, this package prepares a CX device for reliable execution of control code and real-time human-machine interaction without requiring manual operating-system assembly on the plant floor.

It ships with the Microsoft operating environment Windows XP Embedded, allowing deterministic task scheduling alongside familiar Win32 application support. Startup files are stored on a rugged CompactFlash (CF) card so the device can boot without rotating media in environments exposed to vibration. Audio services are covered by the Geode - Native Mode Audio Driver (Windows XP/2000); however, the driver is currently marked as Deactivated so no system resources are allocated to sound processing, an advantage when every cycle must be reserved for control duties. Distribution is compressed in a ZIP archive to minimize download time and simplify checksum verification before deployment.

System recovery and cloning are performed with the Beckhoff Service Tool (BST), which provides menu-guided backup creation directly on the field device. Two keyboard layouts, English and German, are enabled so maintenance personnel can switch language preferences without additional drivers.
