The CX1500-M510 is a plug-in fieldbus interface module produced by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Serving as a CANopen communication option for the CX controller family, the module allows the embedded PC to manage decentralized drives, sensors, and I/O nodes directly on the CAN bus. Within an automation cell, it operates as the physical connection between the CPU and the lower-level CAN network, providing deterministic data exchange while preserving the compact form factor required in control cabinets.

The dual-port RAM uses R/W access, so the CPU and the fieldbus logic can both read from and write to the shared buffer without arbitration delays. On the network side, the module supports the CANopen protocol and acts as a Master, meaning it initiates node guarding, synchronization, and PDO mapping for connected slaves. Cabling terminates on a 9-pin D-Sub connector, which is commonly used in industrial CAN installations. Electrical referencing is clearly arranged: CAN ground appears on pins 3 and 6, differential signaling uses the CAN-low line at pin 2 and the CAN-high line at pin 7, and pin 5 serves as the shield connection that directs noise to ground.
