Product Description:
The CX1200-0510 is a plug-in expansion unit produced by Beckhoff for its CX Embedded PC Systems series. Classified as a storage extension module, it attaches to a base CX controller through the system bus and supplies removable flash media for application code, log files, or system images. Within an automation line, the module allows operating system data to be separated from process information, improving maintainability and enabling rapid media replacement without shutting down the central controller. This arrangement helps keep archived recipes, backups, and logged machine history on removable media instead of the main controller memory.
The module’s primary role is additional mass storage, giving the host PC a dedicated slot for project archives and large recipe sets. Data is written through a Compact Flash interface, so standard solid-state cards can be swapped under power when supported by the application. The interface supports Type I and II cards, so 3.3 mm and 5 mm form factors lock into the connector without adapters. A DIP switch selects the boot source, while the housing maintains an IP20 protection class. This shields the electronics from accidental finger contact and limits dust ingress inside a cabinet. Despite the slim enclosure, the frontal profile spans only 19 mm, permitting high-density stacking on DIN rail power sections.
The housing projects 51 mm from the backplane and rises to 100 mm, matching the height of the basic CX CPU so wiring channels line up cleanly. Matching the CPU height also helps adjacent modules fit into a uniform cabinet layout without uneven vertical spacing. Within these dimensions, the card cage allows even airflow and supports continuous operation from 0 °C up to +55 °C without derating transfer rates. For storage or transport, the electronics tolerate ambient temperatures down to −25 °C and up to +85 °C. This helps protect the flash media when the unit is moved between job sites or kept in warehouse storage.
