Product Description:

The CX1100-0920 is a power management module for the CX Embedded PC Systems series from Beckhoff. Designed for DIN-rail installation next to a CX controller, it buffers the control voltage and keeps the embedded PC running during short mains outages. By maintaining DC power long enough for the CPU to save process data and shut down in an orderly fashion, the module prevents program corruption and unexpected machine stops, which is critical in continuous-process and motion-control applications. The device is intended to work exclusively with Beckhoff’s modular backplane to simplify wiring.

Its internal energy store offers 40 As of discharge capacity, allowing sustained controller operation for several seconds depending on the load. During recharge, the circuit limits input to 4 A, so upstream supplies do not experience an excessive surge. Electrical connection to the CPU stack is through the 16-bit ISA (PC/104 standard) interface, carrying both power and status. Self-heating is kept low, with maximum loss of 2 W, which aids cabinet cooling calculations. The module accepts a regulated 24 V DC on its front-mounted 5-pin open pluggable connector, and when the voltage drops below a threshold, it asserts a power-fail signal via a dedicated digital output so the automation program can initiate data retention routines.

The buffered rail can source up to 1.1 A for the downstream CPU and I/O slices while energy is drawn from the capacitors. Three status LEDs labeled input, output, and charge give a quick visual check of module state without fieldbus diagnostics. Physical dimensions are 95 mm wide, 91 mm deep, and 100 mm high, enabling installation in shallow control panels. The housing has an IP20 rating, so it is intended for ingress-protected cabinets. Energy is stored in a Capacitive bank rather than batteries, eliminating periodic replacement and allowing the module to achieve over a million charge cycles.
