The CX1030-N060 communication module is produced by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Installed alongside a CX1030 CPU, the unit extends the controller with an additional Ethernet channel required for distributed I/O, HMI links, or plant-level networking in industrial automation. By following the same mechanical profile as the base PC, it can be clipped onto the DIN rail stack without separate wiring for power or control, allowing deterministic data exchange inside a compact automation cabinet.
Data exchange between the expansion and the CPU is carried by the Enhanced PC104 Bus, a parallel backplane that offers higher bandwidth than the legacy PC/104 stack. Network traffic leaves the module through a single RJ45 port that supports auto-negotiation at 10/100 Mbit/s, giving the controller access to common plant Ethernet segments without an external switch card. Because only 1 Ethernet channel is present, addressing and diagnostics remain simple in TwinCAT or other PLC runtimes. The permissible copper run from the connector to the next node is 15 m, a distance intended for short inside-cabinet or machine-mounted links where EMI control is critical. All operating power reaches the board through the system bus, eliminating extra supply leads.
The housing measures 19 mm wide, 51 mm deep, and 100 mm high, so it occupies little rail space while matching the ventilation slots of adjacent CX modules. When mounted on the right side of the CPU module, the unit still leaves the top terminal rows of other slices accessible, improving service clearance. An IP20 protection rating indicates that the enclosure shields internal electronics from finger contact and settled dust, but it requires installation in a closed control cabinet. Passive power distribution through the bus keeps wiring density low and preserves the slim front profile.
