The CX1030-0112 is an embedded PC module manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. The unit combines PLC, motion, and visualization capabilities in a single DIN-rail package, allowing it to replace separate controllers in distributed industrial automation architectures. By providing a PC-based platform with real-time fieldbus interfaces, it coordinates machine sequences, processes user interfaces, and links plant networks without the footprint of a conventional industrial computer.
It is driven by a 1.8 GHz processor from the Intel Pentium M family, giving sufficient arithmetic throughput for deterministic control loops and HMI tasks. The main memory of 256 MB DDR-RAM supports larger PLC projects and data logging, while the nonvolatile storage of 64 MB Compact Flash retains the operating system and application during power loss. Beckhoff supplies the controller with Windows CE, and the preinstalled TwinCAT NC PTP runtime adds interpolated point-to-point motion control. Two RJ45 Ethernet interfaces permit separation of the control network from the corporate LAN, and a DVI-I port exports graphics to an external panel. LED indicators for power, LAN traffic, TwinCAT status, and flash access provide quick status checks during operation.
The fanless housing measures 96 x 112 x 99 mm, fits on a DIN rail, and dissipates a maximum of 11 W, so only minor convection airflow is required. The electronics have an IP20 rating, which means solid objects larger than 12 mm are excluded, but the unit must be mounted in an enclosure for moisture protection. Two front-mounted 2 x USB 2.0 ports each supply up to 100 mA for service keyboards, memory sticks, or fieldbus adapters, and the 16-bit ISA (PC104) system bus allows optional I/O or communication modules to be stacked without cabling.
