The CX1030-0012-1003 is an embedded PC module manufactured by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It serves as a DIN-rail-mounted control platform that unites processing, networking, and I/O coordination for industrial automation equipment. When paired with Beckhoff I/O terminals, the unit executes motion sequences, data logging, and visualization tasks while occupying minimal cabinet space. Designed to withstand shop-floor conditions, the controller eliminates rotating media and uses solid-state storage to improve reliability.
Its computing core is an Intel Pentium M processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, providing sufficient instruction throughput for deterministic PLC and HMI workloads. The board carries 256 MB DDR-RAM, so cyclic application code and Windows CE or Embedded XP operating systems can run without paging delays. Program and boot files are stored on a 64 MB CompactFlash card that resists vibration better than a hard disk. Two onboard Ethernet controllers terminate at 2 × RJ45 sockets, and an internal switch allows line-topology wiring without an external hub, simplifying daisy-chained control panels. The CX unit can manage fieldbus gateways, handle OPC data exchange, and render HTML-based diagnostics from the same hardware footprint.
The module communicates with extension cards through a 16-bit ISA (PC104) system bus, so additional fieldbus masters or serial interfaces can be added without enlarging the CPU section. Electrical losses are limited to 11 W, which enables passive convection cooling and avoids cabinet fans. The housing is rated IP20, making it suitable for installation inside standard switchgear enclosures.
