Beckhoff manufactures the CX1020-N040. Two RS232 serial communication ports, COM3 and COM4, are included in the CX1020-N040 communication interface module from Beckhoff for their CX Embedded PC Systems. These are individually accessible via 9-pin D-sub plug connections. The RS232 standard is the basis for reliable point-to-point serial data transmission in industrial environments. The module supports a maximum baud rate of 115 kbaud; this is the number of symbol changes per second and has a direct impact on the data transfer rate. For applications where data latency needs to be minimized for real-time control, diagnostics and monitoring tasks, this high baud rate is necessary.
