Product Description:
The CX1020-0122-1001 is an embedded PC controller manufactured by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Mounted on a DIN rail, this module consolidates PLC logic, motion control, and HMI services into one fanless package for medium-sized machinery. By executing the user application locally and exposing standard Ethernet interfaces, it removes the need for a separate rack PC and enables deterministic control cycles directly beside the terminal blocks on the machine, an approach suited to installations where space and energy are limited.
This model is driven by an Intel Celeron M ULV processor that operates at a 1 GHz base frequency, providing headroom for multitasking IEC 61131-3 programs and Windows services. Program code and I/O data traverse a 16-bit ISA (PC104) system bus that connects the CPU module to optional expansion cards. Two network channels are available through 2 × RJ45 ports, and the integrated 3-port switch supports line-topology wiring without external hubs. A DVI-I, 29-pin socket provides direct panel connection so visualization screens can be rendered by the controller itself. The onboard storage can be expanded through a Type I/II CompactFlash slot, while the operating environment is based on Windows XP Embedded, giving access to familiar APIs. Two USB 2.0 ports supply up to 100 mA each for service tools and removable media.
Passive heat spreading keeps junction temperatures within limits, and the CPU's thermal design power is only 7 W, so the unit's overall dissipation remains below the 11 W maximum power loss. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating, indicating suitability for installation inside a control cabinet but not resistance to liquids. When Beckhoff TwinCAT is installed, the device ships with the NC PTP Runtime, enabling time-synchronous axis positioning through the same Ethernet ports that handle standard traffic.
