Product Description:
The CX1020-0122 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It integrates PLC, motion, and visualization tasks into one DIN-rail module so machine builders can mount a compact controller directly inside control cabinets. Within an automation cell, this hardware replaces separate PLC racks and panel PCs by executing real-time logic, handling fieldbus traffic, and supplying a display signal for an operator station.
A Intel Celeron M ULV processor executes the control code and user programs, and its core is clocked at 1 GHz, giving the unit deterministic cycle times for mid-sized axis groups. During full load, the electronics dissipate only 11 W, which simplifies passive cabinet cooling. The operating system is Windows XP Embedded, allowing standard kernel drivers to coexist with the real-time layer. Two independent Ethernet controllers provide 2 × RJ45 ports, enabling separation of machine networks from plant IT. A 16-bit ISA (PC104) system bus ties the CPU section to I/O terminals, while a Compact Flash Type I+II slot accepts removable media for program or image storage. The clock circuit is battery-backed so time stamps are retained through power loss.
Graphical output is routed through a 1 × DVI-I connector, which allows a remote monitor to be connected up to 5 m away. Two USB controllers expose 2 × USB 2.0 interfaces, each limited to 100 mA to protect downstream devices. The housing meets IP20 and is therefore intended for closed electrical enclosures. The TwinCAT layer supplied is TwinCAT NC PTP Runtime, so the unit supports point-to-point motion control. Diagnostic LEDs, including one for power, two for LAN status, one for TwinCAT activity, and one for Flash access, provide clear status indication. Additional expansion cards can be attached through the PC104 stack to extend serial, fieldbus, or specialized signal functions without increasing footprint.
