The CX1020-0112 is an embedded PC module manufactured by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Intended for DIN-rail installation next to bus terminals, the device consolidates PLC, motion, and visualization duties into a single compact controller. By bringing PC technology to the control cabinet, it replaces separate hardware layers and permits deterministic automation directly at machine level across packaging, material-handling, and building-management installations.

The controller is built around a Intel Celeron M ULV processor clocked at 1 GHz, providing deterministic bandwidth for the pre-installed TwinCAT NC PTP Runtime to execute axis interpolation and PLC tasks. Program data and temporary variables are buffered in 256 MB DDR-RAM, while the operating system and user project reside on a bootable 64 MB Compact Flash module that can be accessed through the front of the housing. Even under full load, the electronics dissipate only 11 W of power, allowing the fanless design to remain within thermal limits inside densely populated cabinets.

For field connectivity, the CX1020-0112 integrates 2 x RJ45 Ethernet ports that share a 100 Mbit backplane and support separated control and diagnostics channels. Peripheral devices such as scanners or memory sticks can draw up to 100 mA from each of the 2 x USB 2.0 interfaces, while a single DVI-I connector drives panel displays without additional converters.
