The CX1020-0100 is a compact PC-based controller produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It is designed to host real-time control logic, visualization, and motion coordination tasks directly on the machine layer, eliminating the need for a separate industrial PC in many automation cells. This arrangement keeps computing functions close to the connected I/O and supports compact automation layouts.

At its core, the module runs at a clock frequency of 1 GHz, which provides the timing baseline for deterministic control loops. The Intel Celeron M ULV processor is optimized for low-power embedded operation, allowing the device to rely on passive cooling. To support program execution, the controller provides 256 MB DDR-RAM as volatile workspace, while permanent data storage is handled by a 64 MB Compact Flash card inserted in the Type I/II slot on the front. Even with all resources active, internal dissipation remains below 11 W, so the unit can be mounted in sealed cabinets without additional ventilation.

The device exposes several field and service interfaces to integrate with surrounding equipment. Two 2 × RJ45 LAN sockets enable redundant or segmented Ethernet networks, and two 2 × USB 2.0 Type A ports allow connection of service tools or removable media; each port is limited to 100 mA to safeguard the backplane supply. A DVI-I 29-pin connector supports local visualization, and five diagnostic LEDs report operating status. The aluminum housing meets the IP 20 protection class, restricting installation to clean control cabinets and making passive cooling sufficient.
