Product Description:

The CX1020-0012 is an embedded PC module developed by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Acting as the CPU segment of a modular PLC, it provides deterministic control, visualization, and communication for medium-sized machine cells and building automation nodes. Its role is to combine PC-based control with a DIN-rail form factor, allowing direct coupling with Beckhoff I/O terminals.

The computing core is an Intel Celeron M ULV, 1 GHz processor, supplying sufficient throughput for logic scan, motion interpolation, and HMI services without forced-air cooling. Program and recipe data reside on the factory-installed 64 MB Compact Flash Card, positioned in a Type I+II slot so larger media can be fitted during service. Fieldbus and IT connectivity are handled by 2 x RJ45 Ethernet interfaces that support 10/100 Mbit/s and real-time EtherCAT routing when appropriate drivers are loaded. The housing footprint of 96 x 112 x 99 mm keeps the controller within standard cabinet depths, and a maximum thermal dissipation of 11 W allows dense mounting without auxiliary fans.

As a fanless unit, it uses passive cooling, which simplifies enclosure design and eliminates moving parts. Environmental protection reaches IP20, making the device suitable for clean, dry panels while still allowing tool-free access to the expansion buses. Time-critical sequences can rely on the Battery-Backed RTC, safeguarding timestamp data during power interruptions. Control logic executes within the NC PTP Runtime of the TwinCAT environment, enabling axis positioning over the 16-bit ISA (PC104) system bus and facilitating power distribution because the CPU receives its supply directly through that backplane. Additional diagnostics are provided by dedicated LEDs, and the absence of DVI or USB ports leaves the entire front face free for communication and I/O modules.
