Product Description:
The CX1020-0011 is an embedded PC module developed by Beckhoff as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Acting as the central processing element in modular automation lines, the unit combines the computing resources of an industrial PC with the deterministic operation of a PLC in a fanless housing. When paired with EtherCAT or other fieldbus couplers, it coordinates motion, I/O scanning, and visualization tasks from within the control cabinet. Its modular format allows compatible communication and I/O components to be installed alongside the processor without requiring a separate computer chassis.
At its core, an AMD Geode LX800, 500 MHz processor executes IEC 61131-3 runtimes and lightweight operating systems while keeping the thermal load low enough for passive cooling. The unit operates from a 24 V DC supply, allowing it to share a common power rail with other low-voltage automation equipment. Its dimensions of 84 × 100 × 91 mm conserve space on the DIN rail while leaving room for nearby wiring and modules. The front panel provides four USB 2.0 ports for connecting flash drives, input devices, HMIs, and other compatible peripherals without an additional hub. For plant networking, the dual controllers provide two RJ45 ports with 10/100 Mbit/s transmission rates. These separate Ethernet connections can support distinct machine and supervisory networks or other network arrangements required by the application.
A separate graphics interface outputs video through DVI-I, which carries digital and analog signals for legacy VGA panels and modern flat-panel displays. Configuration data and critical process variables survive a loss of power in a 128 kB NOVRAM block, which provides wear-free nonvolatile storage when the controller shuts down. The aluminum housing has an IP20 rating and is intended for installation inside a closed electrical enclosure. Passive cooling eliminates moving fan components, while the metal housing assists with heat dissipation during continuous operation. The available processing, display, storage, USB, and Ethernet interfaces allow the module to run control applications while exchanging data with local peripherals and external networks.
