The CX1010-N010 extension module is produced by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. This compact interface component attaches directly to a CX1010 CPU and adds display and human-interface connections for machine control stations. By bringing video output and USB connectivity to the front of the embedded PC, the unit allows local HMI panels, keyboards, and data-logging devices to operate without separate field wiring or a standalone industrial PC. Its narrow format also allows the module to be installed with other CX components in space-constrained control cabinets.
The housing measures 19 × 100 × 51 mm, allowing the module to fit alongside other CX family modules on a DIN rail. External peripherals connect through a compact arrangement consisting of a 29-pin DVI-I connection and two USB-A ports, which conserves panel space while supporting digital and analog displays. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, so it is intended for installation inside a cabinet that provides protection from accidental finger contact but does not require the module itself to resist liquids. The module can operate at a relative humidity of up to 95% under noncondensing conditions, supporting use in humid production areas where moisture does not collect on its surfaces. It draws electrical power through the system bus, eliminating the need for a separate supply cable and reducing the amount of wiring inside the cabinet.
The internal interface logic communicates over the internal PC/104 system bus, matching the data exchange method used by the CX1010 CPU. This connection allows the CPU to recognize and operate the attached display and peripheral interfaces without an external communication cable. Each USB port can supply up to 100 mA per port, which is suitable for flash drives, barcode scanners, keyboards, and other low-power peripheral devices. Analog monitors are supported through DVI-A pin mapping, providing VGA compatibility when the module is connected through an appropriate passive adapter cable. Digital display support is available through the same DVI-I interface, allowing the module to accommodate different monitor types without using an additional video module.
