The CX1010-0112 is an embedded PC produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. As a DIN-rail-mountable controller, it combines CPU, memory, and field interfaces so it can run PLC logic, motion control, or visualization tasks in distributed automation cells. By integrating the Windows CE or TwinCAT environment directly on the rail, the unit eliminates the need for a separate industrial computer and simplifies cabinet layouts. This format makes the unit suitable for compact control cabinets where centralized computing and direct I/O expansion are preferred over a separate box PC.
Processing capability originates from a 500 MHz CPU that handles deterministic control cycles. Application variables and buffers reside in 256 MB DDR RAM, while the operating system and runtime files are stored on a 128 MB CompactFlash Card. Even under full load, the controller draws only 8 W, which, together with the small envelope of 58 x 120 x 91 mm, keeps thermal stress and cabinet space requirements low. A 16-bit ISA PC/104 system bus allows plug-on I/O or fieldbus modules, passive cooling avoids fan maintenance, and the weight of 355 g is well suited for light backplane assemblies. The compact housing also helps when the controller is installed beside terminal blocks, power supplies, and communication couplers in shallow cabinets.
External connectivity rounds out the processing features. Storage expansion is available through a 1 x CompactFlash Type II slot, and service tools can be connected to 2 x USB 2.0 ports. For local operator panels, the PC provides a 1 x DVI-I video output, while real-time networking is achieved through a 10/100 Mbit/s RJ45 Ethernet jack. The housing meets the IP20 ingress protection class for installation inside control cabinets, and its single-core architecture ensures predictable execution times without the overhead of core synchronization. These ports let the controller connect to removable storage, service peripherals, and an external display without extra adapter hardware.
