The CX1010-0010 embedded PC is produced by Beckhoff as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It integrates a processor, memory, and fieldbus access in a compact housing so that PLC logic, HMI routines, and network communication can run inside the control cabinet without separate controllers. In industrial automation, this integration reduces panel space and wiring while maintaining deterministic task scheduling for machines and process cells.

Processing power comes from a single Intel core clocked at 500 MHz, which is adequate for medium-sized logic programs and data handling. The controller carries 256 MB DDR RAM, allowing motion libraries, fieldbus drivers, and user code to execute simultaneously without paging. Under maximum computational load, the device draws only 8 W, so heat generation stays low and the passive enclosure can dissipate energy without fans. For machine-level networking, it provides 1 x RJ45 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet, which supports standard TCP/IP or real-time field protocols to higher-level SCADA stations. The unit has an IP20 protection rating, which helps protect against accidental contact with live components and the entry of large particles.

Boot images and application files reside on a 128 MB CompactFlash card installed in the Type II slot, simplifying field replacement or cloning of system software. The mechanical footprint is limited to 58 × 120 × 91 mm, so multiple PCs, power supplies, and I/O terminals can line up on a single mounting surface. Internal modules communicate over the 16-bit ISA (PC/104) system bus, giving deterministic access to E-bus or K-bus terminals that together may draw up to 10 W. Application code targets the Intel Pentium MMX-compatible architecture, and because no TwinCAT runtime is preinstalled, the unit can be loaded with only the software required by the machine.
