Product Description:

The CX1001-0121 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Serving as a compact control platform, it combines processing, communication, and fieldbus interfacing so that machine control tasks can run directly in the controller cabinet. Loaded with TwinCAT PLC Runtime, the device functions as the central PLC and visualization host, reducing the need for separate controllers inside distributed automation nodes. This layout is useful in compact systems where control, communication, and local interface functions need to be handled by one module.

Its 32-bit x86 processor runs at 266 MHz, providing headroom for typical logic cycles and modest visualization. The operating code executes in 128 MB of RAM, which also buffers field data during normal operation. Local expansion modules synchronize over the 16-bit ISA (PC104) bus, letting digital and analog I/O stack without external cabling. For network connectivity, the controller offers a single 1 × RJ45 Ethernet port that supports TCP/IP and EtherCAT over UDP. Legacy serial devices can be attached through the integrated 1 × 9-pin D-Sub (RS232) interface. That combination supports both networked equipment and older serial peripherals within the same control node.

To maintain accurate time stamps during power loss, a battery-powered RTC keeps the clock running. Application storage uses a front-accessible CompactFlash Type I/II slot, so program or recipe files can be exchanged without opening the housing. Service tools or WLAN adapters plug into the 2 × USB 1.1 Type A connectors, and the DVI-I 29-pin port feeds operator panels up to 1280 × 1024. System, bus, and application status are reported by 5 diagnostic LEDs, which give a quick visual indication of controller activity. The unit relies on passive cooling, and the preinstalled Windows CE image supports the control environment. Because no fan is present, the controller can be mounted in cabinets where airborne dust or fibers might otherwise clog forced-air paths over time.
