Beckhoff's CX1001-0010 is an embedded PC module from the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Acting as a compact control computer, it brings Windows-based processing directly onto a DIN rail and can replace traditional PLC hardware in space-limited cabinets. The unit interfaces with Beckhoff I/O slices over the CX1100 system bus, allowing deterministic machine sequencing, motion commands, and fieldbus gateway functions to run in the same enclosure.

It runs on a Pentium MMX-compatible, 266 MHz processor that provides the computing capacity required for standard TwinCAT tasks. A 64 MB Flash / 128 MB RAM memory layout separates nonvolatile code storage from working data, helping retain programs during power cycles. The preinstalled Windows CE.NET operating system supports real-time extensions so control tasks can meet millisecond deadlines. Network communication is provided through a 1 x RJ45 Ethernet port capable of 100 Mbit transfer to supervisory systems. For serial peripherals, the module includes a 1 x RS232, 9-pin D-Sub connection that allows data exchange with the IEC 61131 runtime. The unit uses passive convection for cooling, so it does not require fans that could collect dust. This model does not include DVI or USB interfaces.

A 1 x Type II CompactFlash slot with an ejector is positioned on the front so storage media and logged data can be accessed while the controller remains mounted. The housing measures 57 × 100 × 91 mm, and the lightweight 355 g construction helps reduce cabinet load. Status feedback is provided by five diagnostic LEDs that indicate power, link speed, link activity, and flash access. Power reaches the CPU through the CX1100 system bus, eliminating separate wiring runs, and a battery-backed real-time clock maintains timestamps during outages. No TwinCAT license is included, so the required runtime license must be provided separately.
