Product Description:
The CX1000-0012 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Designed to serve as the central controller in decentralized machine cells, it combines CPU resources, field I/O interfacing, and automation runtime in a compact housing. When mounted on a DIN rail beside signal terminals, the unit executes motion sequences, logic, and visualization tasks that would otherwise require both an industrial PC and a PLC, allowing cabinet integration where space is limited.
Internally, the module uses a 266 MHz CPU that is Pentium MMX Compatible, giving it throughput for deterministic control under the TwinCAT NC PTP Runtime. Heat is removed by Passive convection, eliminating fans. Program and recipe data can be stored on the removable 1 x Compact Flash Type II card, while backplane signals travel over the 16-Bit ISA (PC104) bus to extension modules. Five diagnostic LEDs show power, link, 100 Mbit, LAN activity, and flash access. Housing width is 57 mm, depth 91 mm, and power comes from the adjacent CX1100 module. A DVI/USB interface is not installed on this variant.
For network tasks the controller offers a single 1 x RJ45 port, allowing direct Ethernet fieldbus or programming access without an additional switch. Vertical clearance requirements are limited, as the enclosure height is only 100 mm, simplifying placement on crowded DIN rails. Time-stamped data logging is supported by a real-time clock that is Battery-Backed, ensuring schedule execution after power loss. Serial peripherals such as barcode readers or drives connect through the front mounted 1 x RS232 port. Together these connections complement the storage, bus, and cooling features described earlier, giving the CX1000-0012 a balanced set of processing, communication, and environmental specifications for mid-range automation cells.
