Product Description:
The C9900-M974 belongs to the C9 PC Accessories series from Beckhoff and serves as an EtherCAT-capable interface module that links field controls to an industrial PC. It moves process data over a shielded CAT.5 cable and incorporates an emergency-stop circuit, so it combines communication and safety switching in one housing. The device is designed for cabinet or machine mounting in demanding areas and relies on an M12, 4-pin, D-coded socket to join the EtherCAT network.
The unit operates from a 24 V DC supply, and its internal electronics limit energy use to a maximum of 7.2 W; together these values set the power budget that must be provided by the control cabinet. When every input and LED is active, current demand peaks at 300 mA, so the upstream power converter must be sized for that load. Data exchange over the EtherCAT line is specified at 100 Mbit, matching Fast Ethernet timing for deterministic cyclic traffic. A shielded line run can extend up to 100 m between nodes without repeaters, giving layout flexibility on long production lines. Contact blocks inside the module switch as low as 5 V AC/DC and 1 mA AC/DC, while their mechanical construction caps switching capacity at 250 mW; these low-energy limits minimize arcing and prolong relay life.
The enclosure carries an ingress rating of IP65, so normal operation is maintained when hoses or dust are present. For safety chains, the emergency-stop pushbutton feeds one normally open and two normally closed channels identified as 1 NO / 2 NC. This arrangement enables dual-channel monitoring in certified controllers. Each contact is approved up to 35 V AC/DC, and clean recognition of release is assured down to a minimum sense current of 1 mA AC/DC. An M12 field connector keeps signal shielding intact, while four rear 4 × M6 holes let the module fasten directly to a panel plate. Because total contact current is limited to 100 mA and instantaneous switching capacity to 250 mW, wiring should remain within those bounds to avoid welds or false trips.
