The C9900-B506 belongs to the C9 PC Accessories series produced by Beckhoff. It is a plug-in extension backplane that adds peripheral capacity to Beckhoff Industrial PCs used on machine controllers, packaging lines, and process workstations. By inserting this module into the system housing, users obtain two extra PCI Express expansion positions without changing the host motherboard, allowing additional motion control, vision, or specialized I/O cards to be installed directly inside the automation cabinet.
The backplane itself is built as a passive board, so it distributes power and high-speed signals without active switching components, minimizing electromagnetic noise and heat. Installing it increases the enclosure depth by 18 mm, so sufficient free space must be available behind the PC before retrofit. Each slot uses a single-lane architecture rated at x1, which supports add-on cards that do not demand high bandwidth but still need deterministic communication. Signal routing follows the PCIe standard, ensuring compatibility with standard expansion cards and matching modules.
