The BX8000-0000 Bus Terminal Controller is manufactured by Beckhoff within the BX Bus Terminal Controllers series. It serves as a compact PLC and fieldbus coupler that executes user programs locally while managing modular K-bus terminals on the same DIN rail. By combining control logic, communication interfaces, and power distribution in a single housing, the unit places deterministic processing close to sensors, valves, and drives in distributed machine sections. It is intended for small to mid-scale cells where short cycle times and high wiring density are important.

At its core, a 16-bit microcontroller handles deterministic scan execution, and the controller offers 256 kB of non-volatile program memory for IEC 61131-3 code and data. The internal process image allocates 2048 bytes for inputs and 2048 bytes for outputs, giving the runtime a predictable address space. For direct wiring, the device can accommodate 2040 inputs/outputs of the digital type and 1024 inputs/outputs of the analog type without additional couplers. Two integrated serial interfaces allow point-to-point links with drives or operator panels, while the SSB channel supports up to eight slaves and exchanges 32 RxPDO and 32 TxPDO objects per cycle. A front-mounted display with FSTN 2 × 16 lines shows status words, I/O counts, and diagnostics during setup.

The K-bus accepts 64 terminals and supplies them with a total bus current of 1450 mA. Power contacts routed through the base carry up to 10 A at a maximum of 24 VDC to downstream loads, and the logic electronics draw from a separate 24 VDC (-15 %/+20 %) source. A dielectric strength of 500 V separates field and system potentials, supporting low-voltage installations inside panels. The housing meets the IP20 protection rating, so it is intended for enclosed cabinets where contaminants are controlled.
