The BX5100-0000 is a bus terminal controller produced by Beckhoff within the BX Bus Terminal Controllers series. The device integrates a compact PLC with a CANopen master so that distributed bus terminals can be addressed directly from higher-level control systems. Mounted on a DIN rail next to standard Beckhoff I/O slices, it supplies logic execution, network management, and power distribution functions that simplify small and mid-range machine cells in industrial automation. This arrangement lets the controller manage local I/O updates while exchanging control data with the wider automation network.

Automatic baud detection up to 1 Mbaud lets the controller synchronize with existing CANopen segments without manual parameter entry. A local rack capacity of 64 terminals can be installed on the right-hand K-bus, giving access to mixed signal types that accumulate to 2040 I/O points. These variables are mapped into a dual process image of 2048 bytes in and 2048 bytes out for deterministic exchange with the internal CPU. The controller’s 32-bit processor is backed by 256 kbytes of battery-buffered program memory, allowing logic, diagnostics, and parameter sets to be stored directly on the unit. A 24 V DC supply powers the electronics, while the K-bus draws 1450 mA to energize all attached slices, and status is shown on the illuminated 2 × 16-character FSTN display.

On the network side, the integrated CANopen interface can coordinate up to 63 nodes, making the BX5100 suitable for machines that combine drive amplifiers, sensors, and remote valve islands on one fieldbus line. Power contacts are rated for 10 A at a contact voltage of 24 V DC, and internal spacing provides a dielectric strength of 500 V between the logic and field wiring. The open-style 5-pin bus connector simplifies drop-cable installation, and the overall assembly meets the IP20 protection class for use inside control cabinets where convection cooling is available.
