Product Description:

The BK9103 PROFINET Bus Coupler is a modular interface device from Beckhoff that connects PROFINET RT networks to K-bus terminal systems. The bus coupler enables reliable communication between controllers and distributed I/O terminals using standardized Ethernet protocols.

Supporting the PROFINET RT protocol, the BK9103 bus coupler allows the connection of a maximum of 64 terminals, which can be increased to 255 with the K-bus expansion. With its three Ethernet ports and two external RJ45 connectors, the coupler is capable of handling speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s. Supporting both line and star topologies, the maximum number of cascading couplers is 20, the maximum distance between them is 100 m, and the overall line length can be 2 km. Improving setup is the coupler's automatic mapping of I/O terminals to the process image. Both static IP address assignment using DHCP and dynamic IP address assignment using a DIP switch are available. Each setup calls for one end terminal, and the coupler's support for electronic terminal blocks that are both modular and expandable allows for versatile system growth. Use of TCP/IP and other international IT standards for communication guarantees interoperability with many different types of network architectures.

The BK9103 bus coupler is designed for easy integration and expansion in industrial automation systems. The coupler includes features such as automatic process image mapping and support for both static and dynamic IP address assignment. Flexible network configurations are made possible by the integrated three-port switch, which also helps to reduce the complexity and cost of wiring. The maximum number of digital and analog peripheral signals is 512 and 256, respectively, and the unit can be installed on a 35 mm DIN rail. The coupler ensures process reliability with its automatic I/O assignment and supports efficient network management with line topology support.

Frequently Asked Questions about BK9103:

Q: How does BK9103 map I/O terminals to the process image?

A: The coupler automatically assigns I/O terminals to the process image, streamlining configuration and ensuring accurate data exchange with the controller.

Q: Why is a 3-port Ethernet switch integrated in BK9103?

A: The integrated 3-port switch in the coupler allows direct connection of multiple devices that support flexible topologies and reduce the need for external switches.

Q: Does BK9103 require an end terminal in every configuration?

A: Yes, the coupler requires one end terminal in each configuration to complete the K-bus and ensure proper operation of the terminal system.

Q: How many couplers can be cascaded with BK9103?

A: Up to 20 BK9103 couplers can be cascaded in a line topology that allows a total maximum line length of 2 km.

Q: Why does BK9103 use international IT standards like TCP/IP?

A: The coupler uses TCP/IP to ensure compatibility with standard Ethernet networks and facilitate integration with existing automation infrastructure.
