Product Description:

Beckhoff created the BK8000 RS485 Bus Coupler, which is made to link up to 64 bus terminals in automation systems. The RS-485 D-sub interface permits data connection, and the KS2000 software allows setting of the coupler. When a serial interface may take the role of a fieldbus system, the coupler is an ideal choice.

The BK8000 bus coupler can take in and send out fieldbus data of up to 512 bytes each. The coupler works with a power source of 24 V DC and can take in up to 500 mA of current, which is 70 mA plus a quarter of the total K-bus current. The coupler has power connections that can handle up to 24 V DC and 10 A, and it can send up to 1750 mA to the K-bus. The bus coupler can communicate with other devices using an open, well-known standard, and it can send data at speeds of 9.6, 19.2, and 38.4 kbaud. The coupler is made to attach to a 35 mm DIN rail and has a small plastic case that is 51 mm long, 100 mm wide, and 69 mm high. The bus coupler has spring-actuated screw terminals and can work with wire that has solid, flexible, or ferrule conductors.

The BK8000 bus coupler operates within a temperature range of 0 to 55°C and can be stored between -25 and +85°C. Electrical isolation of 500 V is provided between power contacts, supply voltage, and fieldbus. The coupler complies with EMC standards EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4 and carries certifications including CE, UL, ATEX, IECEx, and DNV GL. The bus coupler supports up to 99 devices on the RS-485 bus with address selection and is configured for reliable data exchange in industrial automation. It features power contacts capable of handling currents up to 10 A.

Frequently Asked Questions about BK8000:

Q: Does BK8000 support configuration via KS2000?

A: Yes, the coupler can be configured using the KS2000 software. This allows easy parameter setting and system integration.

Q: How does BK8000 handle input current requirements?

A: The bus coupler input current is 70 mA plus one-fourth of total K-bus current. It limits max current to 500 mA to protect circuits.

Q: Why is the recommended fuse for BK8000 ≤ 10 A?

A: The fuse rating of ≤ 10 A protects the device from overcurrent. It matches the maximum current load of power contacts.

Q: Does BK8000 support data transfer rates on RS485?

A: Yes, the bus coupler supports 9.6, 19.2, and 38.4 kbaud rates. This flexibility allows adaptation to different communication speeds.

Q: How does BK8000 ensure electrical isolation?

A: The bus coupler provides 500 V isolation between power contacts, supply, and fieldbus. This prevents interference and protects connected devices.
