Product Description:
Beckhoff BK5220 is a compact EtherCAT Bus Coupler capable of seamlessly being integrated into distributed I/O systems. It is engineered as part of Beckhoff's BK EtherCAT Bus Couplers series and offers a powerful interface to link EtherCAT to Beckhoff's modular bus terminal systems. The BK5220 supports up to 64 I/O terminals by default and is field expandable to 255 terminals in the K-bus extension mode providing modular scalability for a variety of automation applications.
A maximum of 1,020 digital signals and 256 analog inputs/outputs are handled by the coupler, providing for robust data acquisition and control of simple or complex systems. It features automatic data transfer rate detection, it supports 512 bytes input/output, and it provides very high speed as well as deterministic communication via EtherCAT. Its configuration is flexible and it is possible to parameterize the system either using KS2000 software or directly through the controller.
For reliable operation of the connected terminals, the power is supplied through a 24 V DC bus cable with maximum K-Bus current supply of 1750 mA. It is housed in a lightweight enclosure weighing about 130 grams and is easily integrated to small and space constrained environments or control panels. Moreover, it is also functional in its operating temperature range from -25C to +60C, keeping its functionality at par with industrial conditions. The bus interface comes with a standard 5 pin open pluggable connector, and data transfer is by means of screened, twisted copper wire which maximizes noise immunity and data integrity. An optimal solution for the needs of decentralized control systems aimed at implementing efficient and scalable I/O connectivity is the BK5220, which is compact, high-performance, and has EtherCAT communication with a rich feature set.
