The BK5100-0000 is a bus coupler produced by Beckhoff for the BK CANopen Bus Couplers series. The unit links a CANopen network with a modular stack of Beckhoff terminals, translating local I/O states into process data and forwarding network commands back to the terminal slice. In an industrial control panel, the coupler serves as the first module on the DIN rail and manages power distribution and communication for the I/O points that follow. This layout lets standard terminal modules be combined in one station without requiring a separate communication interface for each signal type.
Communication uses a 5-pin open-style fieldbus connector with pin assignments of 1 to GND, 2 to CAN-L, 3 to shield, 4 to CAN-H, and 5 to NC. The device accepts a logic supply of 24 VDC and supports data rates from 10 kbaud up to 1,000 kbaud. Separation between the bus circuitry and I/O power is maintained through full electrical isolation. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating for installation inside a control cabinet, and front-panel diagnostic LEDs indicate bus activity and error states. The connector arrangement keeps the network wiring separate from the contacts used for local terminal expansion.
The housing has a width of 50 mm, a depth of 68 mm, and a height of 100 mm. It is molded from polyamide PA 6.6 and polycarbonate, which provides good stability around the terminal blocks during normal cabinet operation. A tongue-and-groove profile lets adjacent terminal slices interlock through the double connection feature, and the assembly snaps onto a standardized 35 mm EN 60715 mounting rail. Its narrow format allows the coupler to sit at the head of a terminal row without using much lateral rail space. The side-mounted labeling strip remains visible when modules are stacked, which helps identify terminals in a crowded cabinet.
