Product Description:
The BK5000 Bus coupler was made by Beckhoff to work with CAN-based networks and make data transfer quick and easy. There are clearly marked CAN-H, CAN-L, CAN-GND, and power input terminals on the coupler's CAN-CAL connection pins.
Analog channels carrying 16-bit data in a 2-byte LSB-first format are handled by the BK5000 bus coupler. In order to provide straightforward addressing, the coupler enumerates channels beginning with 0. Bytes are used to group digital I/Os; non-digital terminals are not included in this grouping. Each byte contains 8 channels. There are LED indicators on the module that show the current state of the module, the network, and the input/output. These LEDs signal CAN errors, transmit and receive queue overruns, and I/O errors. The bus coupler uses registers to configure CAL baud rate, node class, guard time, lifetime, and terminal modes such as polling, cycle, and change of value. Timer modes and assignments are also programmable. Process image activation is enabled with a customizable configuration type and simple terminal mapping. Digital diagnosis mapping is active, while sync inputs and outputs are disabled by default. Error reactions include no action on fieldbus errors and mode 2 activation on terminal bus errors.
The BK5000 bus coupler has a CAN-CAL connector with Pin 2 for CAN-H, Pin 4 for CAN-L, and Pin 5 for CAN-GND. The power source is connected through 24 V and 0 V terminals. The module can fuse the 24 V line in a way that meets UL standards. The coupler gives a structured process picture by putting digital and analog data into groups that make sense. The LED indicators show the state in real time, which helps find problems quickly. The BK5000 can be used in situations where precise data handling and reliable contact over CAN networks are needed.
Frequently Asked Questions about BK5000:
Q: Why does BK5000 use a 16-bit analog data format?
A: It ensures precise analog signal representation. This improves measurement accuracy in automation systems.
Q: How does BK5000 group digital I/O channels?
A: Digital I/Os are grouped in bytes with 8 channels per byte. Non-digital terminals are excluded from grouping.
Q: Does BK5000 support automatic channel enumeration?
A: Yes, channels start numbering from 0 automatically. This simplifies terminal configuration and addressing.
Q: Why is CAN-GND included in BK5000 connector pins?
A: CAN-GND provides a dedicated ground reference. It reduces noise and stabilizes CAN communication.
Q: Do non-digital terminals affect BK5000 digital grouping?
A: No, non-digital terminals are not counted in digital channel grouping. This maintains a consistent data structure.
