Product Description:
The BK3150-0900 is a bus coupler manufactured by Beckhoff for the BK EtherCAT Bus Couplers series. It links an EtherCAT backbone to PROFIBUS DP field segments so that modular Bus Terminals can be addressed from a central controller. The separation of system and peripheral power simplifies distributed I/O installation while keeping logic communication on the high-speed EtherCAT ring. The coupler also provides the electrical and communication interface needed to integrate terminal-based input and output devices into the fieldbus architecture.
The unit operates from a supply of 24 VDC and draws up to 320 mA under full load. At power-up, the demand rises to 2.5 times the continuous current, which must be considered when selecting the power supply and fuse. Power contacts inside the terminal stack are rated for 10 A at 24 V DC, allowing connected actuators to receive peripheral power through the terminal assembly without separate feed lines. The dielectric strength between the logic area and these power contacts is 500 V, providing electrical isolation between the internal circuits and field wiring. Communication with the PROFIBUS segment reaches 12 Mbaud through the built-in protocol engine. A single 9-pin D-Sub connector provides the necessary signal, shield, and reference connections, while the IP20 housing is intended for installation inside a control cabinet.
The coupler supports 128 analog inputs or outputs and 256 digital inputs or outputs, while its process image is limited to 128 bytes. It accepts up to 64 standard Bus Terminals directly, providing capacity for modular signal configurations without requiring a larger mounting footprint. The housing measures 44 × 100 × 68 mm, allowing compact placement on a standard DIN rail while leaving space for adjacent control components. The PROFIBUS cable connects through the D-Sub port, and the opposite side remains available for terminal expansion. An extension coupler can increase the terminal arrangement to as many as 255 nodes, supporting larger distributed I/O assemblies when the direct terminal capacity is insufficient.
