Beckhoff produces BK2020 Lightbus Bus Coupler designed for industrial automation. It supports up to 64 bus terminals, expandable to 255 terminals with the K-bus extension. The coupler enables quick signal management through its 1,020 digital peripheral inputs and outputs. It also provides 128 analog peripheral inputs and outputs for accurate analog data processing.
The BK2020 bus coupler operates through fiber-optic conductors to provide steady data transfer between fieldbus systems. The data transfer relies on two types of fiber optic cables: the APF plastic with a 1,000 µm core diameter and the HCS with a 200 µm core diameter. The coupler operates at a 2.5 Mbaud data transfer speed with input-output capabilities up to 512 bytes each. It contains two standardized fiber-optic connectors that manage bus interface connections. The maximum distance between stations is 45 meters when using APF fiber and extends to 300 meters with HCS fiber. The recommended fuse rating for the BK2020 bus coupler is less than or equal to 10 A. The bus coupler functions within the temperature range of 0 to 55°C for industrial applications. The power supply requirements demand a 24 V DC voltage which can operate with a range of -15% to +20%. The K-bus supply draws 1,750 mA of current. However, the input current equals 70 mA, along with a quarter of the K-bus current total. The bus coupler maintains input current levels that stay below 500 mA.
The BK2020 bus coupler offers dependable data transfer along with modular system connection capabilities for processing both digital and analog signals. Configuration is possible through this bus coupler software tool or directly via the controller. The coupler ensures stable data exchange across fieldbus systems using fiber-optic conductors. At the beginning of operation, the current level reaches approximately 2.5 times the operating current level.
