The X90CP174.24-00 mobile controller is produced by B & R Automation as part of the X90 Mobile Controllers series. As a programmable control unit for off-highway machinery and mobile equipment, it coordinates sensors, actuators, and communication buses to execute deterministic control tasks in harsh outdoor environments. The device forms the computational core of distributed automation architectures on construction, agricultural, and municipal vehicles, enabling real-time motion control, data logging, and network gateway functions.
Processing performance is provided by a 650 MHz ARM Cortex A9 processor that executes application code while maintaining deterministic cycle times. The controller integrates 256 MB of DDR3 RAM for runtime data and 1 GB of flash memory for application software, recipes, and log files, while 32 kB of FRAM retains high-frequency counters without wear. Three CAN networks are available through three CMC headers, allowing the propulsion, hydraulic, and diagnostic domains to remain electrically isolated. Two dedicated sensor power supplies simplify wiring for field transducers. An M12 POWERLINK interface delivers real-time Ethernet-based communication with decentralized drives and valve islands.
The die-cast aluminum enclosure is sealed to IP69K, so the unit tolerates high-pressure washdown, road salt, and constant vibration on off-road vehicles. It offers 24 configurable multifunction I/Os that can be assigned as digital, analog, PWM, or frequency channels. Space for four internal option boards supports future expansion with devices such as GNSS receivers or additional bus masters. The controller has one 10/100BASE-T M12 port that provides standard Ethernet connectivity for service computers or telematics modems. LED status indicators on the front panel provide immediate diagnostic information, and the service access window permits software updates without requiring the controller to be removed from its mount. The housing material, cable glands, and sealing system support conduction cooling while protecting the electronics from dust and moisture.
