The X67DC1198 module is produced by B & R Automation and belongs to the X67 Analog Input Output Modules series. Designed for distributed machine architectures, it aggregates mixed-signal data and bridges field devices to the controller through the X67 bus. In a typical installation, the module collects incremental encoder signals, digital statuses, and comparator feedback so the automation system can synchronize motion axes or process events in real time. This arrangement lets signal handling stay close to the machine, which helps reduce long field runs between sensors, actuators, and the main control cabinet. It is well suited to stations where encoder feedback and discrete signals must be processed at the same node.
Its four individual counting channels operate with incremental quadrature encoders. The highest accepted A/B counting frequency is 100 kHz, allowing precise edge evaluation. Each channel offers 4 AB counters to capture separate position or length measurements, while the asynchronous A/BR capture path tolerates rates up to 250 kHz for fast conveyor or spindle feedback. General-purpose I/O capability is provided by 8 digital I/O points, and every point can source or sink loads as long as the combined current does not exceed 0.1 A. A dedicated comparator stage associated with each counter supplies four hardware trigger outputs that can activate downstream devices without CPU latency. That direct hardware response supports applications where fast event handling is required.
The digital channels share a common sensor supply of 24 VDC, so standard proximity switches can be wired directly. Differential encoder lines are accepted at an input level of 5 V, and the front plate offers six terminals arranged as 2 × 3 for the two encoder ports. For analog speed references or valve modulation, the unit provides 2 PWM outputs, and duty cycle is generated in hardware to avoid jitter. When absolute position feedback is required, the serial SSI port streams data at up to 1 Mbit/s, using the same galvanically isolated backplane interface as the counter section. The mix of counter, digital, PWM, and SSI functions supports compact machine nodes that need several signal types in one location. Combining these functions in one housing also helps keep peripheral wiring organized when multiple device types are connected at a single station.
