B&R Automation manufactured the X67BCD321.L12 as part of the X67 Analog Input Output Modules series. This remote I/O unit combines digital input and output circuitry in a sealed housing for installation on machines and conveyors. It is intended to collect sensor states, drive actuators, and transmit the resulting data through the series' real-time network to a central controller. By relocating signal processing near field devices, it reduces cabinet wiring and supports modular automation cells.
The module communicates over the industrial Ethernet transport layer provided by EtherNet/IP, allowing deterministic updates and standard TCP/IP services on the same cable. A total of 16 digital channels can be configured as inputs or outputs, so one device can service mixed signal groups without additional hardware. All logic circuits are powered from a 24 VDC supply that matches most proximity switches and solenoid valves used on the factory floor. Threaded M12 connectors carry both power and data, giving the enclosure a sealed, pluggable interface that withstands vibration. Each output is rated for 0.5 A, supporting direct actuation of small relays or indicator lamps without interposing relays.
Two onboard pulse registers count edges up to 50 kHz, so high-speed sensor feedback such as encoder index marks can be captured without burdening the PLC scan. The module has 2 event counters, allowing simultaneous monitoring of separate shafts or flow meters while sharing the same network address. An X2X link segment may extend 100 m between nodes, which helps cover large production cells with standard shielded cabling. The backplane supply for the link is limited to 15 W, which limits how many downstream modules can be daisy-chained. The input filter is configurable so debounce timing can be matched to device characteristics.
