B&R Automation designed the X67BC8591.L12 as a compact remote I/O module in the X67 Analog Input Output Modules series. The IP-rated block fastens directly to machinery and gathers mixed-signal data while forwarding it over deterministic Ethernet networks. In industrial printing or packaging lines, it converts local analog, digital, and encoder feedback into controller-ready information, supporting synchronized drives, mark detection, and web-speed regulation at the point of use. Mounting the block close to sensors and actuators also helps reduce long field wiring runs between the machine and the control cabinet.
The module provides 2 x 10 V, 12-bit, 5 µs fast analog inputs, meaning two ±10 V channels deliver 12-bit resolution with a 5 µs conversion time for high-speed tension or pressure monitoring. Overall scan timing is governed by a controller-wide interval of 5 µs, so acquired data aligns precisely with servo cycles. A dedicated encoder port accepts 1 x ABR, 5 V, 600 kHz, allowing differential A/B/Z signals up to 600 kHz to be timestamped locally. Two fast digital terminals rated at 2 x 24 VDC, 0.5 A, 2 µs switch or sense 24 V edges within 2 µs, which is useful for registration triggers or valve actuation. The molded housing carries an IP67 ingress rating, ensuring dust-tight sealing and resistance to washdown jets without an additional enclosure.
Upstream communication occurs through POWERLINK, while a local X2X Link bus connects neighboring X67 blocks under the same 5 µs system clock. The single 12-bit analog output refreshes a 0–10 V reference in 0.5 ms, and two standard 24 VDC inputs manage device status. Integrated registration logic recognizes rectangle, triangle, and double-triangle mark shapes from the two contrast sensors and ties each event to the encoder count, maintaining print alignment on webs moving up to 1000 m/min. These features off-load time-critical processing from the PLC while preserving deterministic response across the machine network. Local event handling also helps the controller receive synchronized process data without routing every fast signal through a central cabinet first.
