Product Description:
The X20SRT842 safety I/O module is offered by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed for integrated machine safety, the unit combines configurable safe inputs and outputs in a compact slice that mounts directly on an X20 backplane. It interfaces with a system controller over the safe fieldbus channel so that motion stops, guard monitoring, and emergency circuits can be processed within the automation architecture. Its mixed channel set concentrates safety-related functions on one terminal, helping reduce the amount of cabinet wiring required for connected sensors and actuators.
The module provides eight safe input channels, and each channel uses the Type A safe input classification. This arrangement allows the module to supervise the switching element and input signal in single-channel architectures. The module evaluates every input with a 150 µs safety cycle time, allowing discrepancies between commanded and measured states to be detected quickly. For actuation, the unit has four Type A outputs that switch 24 V lines. Each of these channels supports a 3 A Type A output current. The output signal switching device diagnostic operates within 500 µs, while the output voltage remains at 24 VDC to match standard sensor supply rails.
Beyond the safety channels, the module supplies four standard pulse outputs for encoder simulation or stepper direction tasks. These channels operate with a 24 VDC pulse-output voltage supplied through a dedicated rail. The module also includes two Type B2 safety outputs for low-current field devices. Each channel supports a 50 mA Type B2 output current, making the outputs suitable for feedback LEDs or interlock relays. Their associated output signal switching device latency is no more than 500 µs, and the switched level remains at 24 VDC. All output groups therefore operate from a common supply domain, which simplifies power distribution and field wiring within the control cabinet.
