The X20SO4120 is a safe digital output module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus I/O Modules series. It fits onto the system backplane and provides safety-related switching for external actuators in machinery with SIL requirements. The module drives 24 V DC devices such as contactors, lamps, and interposing relays while exchanging diagnostic information over the X20 bus. It adds outputs that the safety controller can shut down without disrupting standard I/O traffic. Its mechanical format matches other X20 modules, allowing it to fit consistently within the fieldbus station and control cabinet.
The module provides four channels, with each channel isolated to support a separate load circuit. It uses a nominal supply of 24 V DC, so connected loads must operate at the same voltage level for reliable switching. The outputs conform to the Safe Type A classification, and each channel is continuously monitored for short circuits and cross faults. A maximum de-energization delay of 500 µs allows the module to remove output power in less than one millisecond when a stop command occurs.
