Product Description:

The X20SLX410 is a slice-mounted safety I/O module from B & R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It installs on the system backplane to collect input signals and generate fast pulse trains for motion-related tasks inside an industrial controller rack. By combining safe input channels with configurable pulse outputs, the unit allows machine safety logic and position feedback handling to be concentrated in one compact fieldbus node. Its slice-based format also lets it fit alongside other X20 modules on the same backplane without requiring a separate standalone housing.

This module runs on a system supply of 24 VDC and provides four safe digital inputs that are monitored individually. A galvanic barrier rated at 500 Veff separates the bus lines from the logic domain, which helps prevent ground loops between remote racks. Each input passes through a hardware filter of 150 µs or less, so short glitches are screened out before the data reach the controller. Internal diagnostics supervise the input path and can flag discrepancies within 200 ms, allowing a quick response during machine operation. For motion applications, the module also provides four pulse outputs, while the backplane draws only 0.32 W of bus power and 1.25 W from the internal I/O rail. The sink-wired input circuit uses a Type A topology and limits leakage current to 0.1 mA when a channel is off.

Each pulse channel delivers up to 50 mA through a push-pull driver stage, so it can both source and sink current without additional transistors. Under fault conditions, the output stage restricts flow to a maximum of 100 mAeff, which helps contain energy until upstream protection trips. Because the output can drive current in both directions, it can interface with pulse-driven devices that require stable switching behavior. This arrangement supports compact wiring and direct connection to compatible field devices within the rack-based control system.
