Product Description:
The X20SL8001 belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series manufactured by B&R Automation. It is a compact SafeLOGIC controller module that supervises distributed safety I/O over POWERLINK networks in industrial automation cells. By embedding safety logic directly on the fieldbus backplane, the unit reduces controller count and allows machine builders to implement decentralized safety functions alongside standard control tasks.
Thermal management is simplified because the electronics use fanless cooling, and the housing meets the IP20 degree of protection expected inside control cabinets. The module is powered from a nominal 24 VDC supply and draws only 5.1 W, helping support low-power panel layouts. Two integrated Ethernet sockets, provided as 2 shielded RJ45 ports, form a line topology without external switches while sustaining a data rate of 100 Mbit/s. Segment wiring can extend up to 100 m between nodes, and the 87.5 mm wide, 290 g enclosure fits alongside other X20 slices without extra supports. Up to 32 machine options can be parameterized so that one unit can cover multiple equipment configurations. The unit does not include SafeMotion functions, keeping the footprint small when axis-level safety is not required.
Cyclic safety communication is deterministic: the network permits a maximum fieldbus cycle time of 20 ms, yet the controller itself can execute its logic with a shortest internal cycle of 1 ms for rapid reaction to input changes. Within one POWERLINK segment, the device can coordinate up to 100 nodes, and it supports as many as 10 SafeLOGIC links to peer safety CPUs so complex lines can share interlocks. Because each link is independent, fault containment remains localized while global e-stops are propagated in the same scan. Additional I/O slices can be added to the X20 rack while the stated cycle-time and node-count limits are observed.
