Product Description:
The X20SI2100 is a safety input module manufactured by B & R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Mounted on a fieldbus backplane, it collects binary signals from devices such as guard switches or emergency stops and conveys them to the system controller for deterministic shutdown logic. The compact housing allows it to sit beside standard X20 slices, so mixed safety and standard I/O can share the same rail and the same power distribution in an industrial enclosure.
This module has two safe input channels that comply with safety category Type A, meaning each channel performs self-testing and cross-monitoring before its data are released to the bus. It tolerates installation sites up to 2000 m above sea level without derating, and reliable operation is maintained in ambient humidity up to 95% RH. When the unit is fixed in the normal horizontal position found in most control cabinets, it can work at surface temperatures as high as 60 °C; if it is installed vertically, the allowable limit is 50 °C. These temperature limits help determine cabinet ventilation needs and prevent nuisance safety trips caused by thermally induced faults.
The specified lower boundary for operation is 0 °C, so the module must be used in frost-free environments. In addition to its input function, the slice provides 2 pulse output channels that can send test pulses to connected sensors, and each pulse channel supplies 24 VDC field voltage. Internally diagnosed line faults on the outputs are reported over the bus, allowing the controller to flag broken wires or short circuits. For machine stops that must meet Performance Level d, the module’s independent logic paths simplify wiring of dual-channel contact circuits while supporting current safety standards.
