Product Description:
The X20SD1207 is a safety counter module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Intended for machine and plant automation, the unit supplies a dedicated digital channel that captures encoder or sensor pulses while integrating with the system safety controller. By combining standard counting with certified shutdown behavior, the module helps support safety functions without requiring separate counting hardware. This arrangement is useful in systems that must monitor motion-related signals while still keeping the safety circuit closely tied to the control platform.
In operation, the input channel is classified as Safe Type A, meaning internal diagnostics check the signal path so that faults are detected within the required demand times. Only one counting line is present, so the hardware offers 1 counter channel for applications that need single-ended position or speed feedback. The counter accepts edge frequencies up to 7 kHz, allowing direct connection of fast proximity switches or TTL encoders. Supply power must come from a galvanically separated SELV/PELV source, and all terminals are rated for a maximum signal level of 24 VDC. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating, which suits installation inside a control cabinet. Its insulation system is tested according to overvoltage category II to withstand typical industrial surges.
Should a fault be detected or a stop command be issued, the output is driven to the safe state of Low State Or Cutoff, removing energy from connected actuators. Mechanical endurance is suitable for cabinet-mounted equipment because the module withstands shocks up to 15 g and continuous vibration of 1 g without functional degradation. This allows the unit to remain suitable for packaging lines, material handling stations, and similar equipment where repeated motion and machine vibration are part of normal operation. The module can therefore be used where pulse monitoring and safety response must work together in one compact automation assembly.
