Product Description:
The X20SC2212 safety I/O module is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is designed for safety-related control architectures that combine input and output channels in one compact housing. The module exchanges critical status and actuation signals between field devices and a programmable safety controller within industrial machinery.
This module draws only 0.25 W from the system bus, while an additional internal I/O demand of 1.4 W is supplied through the backplane. All field circuits share a nominal supply of 24 VDC, and each channel is isolated from the logic core by 500 Veff to help prevent ground loops between sensors and the controller. Type A input circuitry detects line faults, and a fault that persists for more than 100 ms is flagged as an input error. Six discrete sourcing channels can be reconfigured as pulse generators, giving the controller 6 pulse outputs that are rated for a continuous sink or source of 20 mA per channel. The input stage recognizes the intended logic 0 whenever the applied signal falls below the low switching threshold, and the IP20 enclosure limits installation to protected control cabinets.
For safety-classified loads, the module presents six validated input points and two force-guided output drivers. The logic interprets a valid low state when the signal stays under <5 VDC, which helps detect shorts to positive voltage. Each solid-state safety output can continuously deliver up to 0.5 A and withstand reverse braking voltages as high as 45 VDC without damage. The outputs issue a diagnostic test pulse no longer than 500 µs so downstream contactors can be checked for welded contacts. This behavior supports monitored stop circuits and other machine safety functions that require verified output switching.
