Product Description:
The X20SC0842 is a safety I/O slice manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. Installed on an X20 backplane, the module links distributed machine safety points to a central Safety CPU through the same fieldbus that carries standard control data. Its circuitry accepts discrete safety sensors such as emergency stop buttons, guard-door switches, and light-curtain outputs and delivers switching signals for relays or indicators, enabling localized reaction without the need for separate wiring harnesses.
The input section offers 8 channels that meet the Safe Type A classification, so single-channel devices can be wired directly while diagnostic test pulses are generated internally. Reaction time from an input change to a safe state is less than 500 µs, which supports applications requiring fast shutdown. All power for sensing and actuation is derived from the common 24 VDC safety supply. For wire integrity monitoring, the unit drives a selectable test frequency on 4 dedicated pulse outputs. Downstream line breaks or short circuits are detected by evaluating the returned signal on paired inputs, helping maintain safety integrity.
This safe digital mixed module also carries output resources for final elements. One Type A group contains four high-side switches that source up to 3 A each, letting the slice energize contactors or signal lamps without external relays. A separate Type B2 group provides 2 low-power semiconductor outputs limited to 50 mA per channel, making them suitable for driving optocouplers or status LEDs. Combining input monitoring, pulse diagnostics, and two distinct output groups in a single housing allows safety sensing and actuation to share the same node while maintaining clear separation between power classes.
