Product Description:
The X20SA4430 safe current input module is produced by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It conditions and digitizes analog current signals so that a safety PLC can monitor sensors and actuators that influence machine stop functions. By slotting directly onto the X20 backplane, the device supports decentralized I/O islands and reduces wiring in industrial automation cells that demand certified safety performance.
The module offers 4 analog inputs, providing four separate measurement paths for process currents such as 0–20 mA or 4–20 mA. Each channel is protected through per-channel galvanic isolation, which blocks ground loops and prevents high-energy faults on one input from affecting the others. Terminals are arranged in a 2 × 2 input grouping; this layout shares reference conductors in two pairs to shorten trace lengths and control crosstalk. Safety logic follows a Type A input safety classification, making the board suitable for circuits that rely on simple shutdown or interlock strategies without online diagnostic testing. Within each pair, there are 2 inputs per group, permitting redundant sensor hookups so the controller can compare readings and trigger discrepancies if values diverge beyond a configured threshold.
Environmental and mechanical margins allow installation near moving equipment. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, shielding users from live parts while remaining ventilated for cabinet airflow. Conformal-coated components tolerate up to 95% non-condensing humidity, and the design can operate at a maximum operating elevation of 2000 m without derating. For applications that see sudden impacts, the PCB and connector system offers shock resistance of 15 g, maintaining signal integrity on stamping lines, vibratory feeders, and mobile platforms.
