Product Description:
The X20RT8201 module is a combined analog-digital fieldbus node produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. This plug-in unit provides signal conversion and discrete switching so that a controller can monitor process variables and actuate devices over the X20 backplane. In an automation cell, it occupies minimal rack space while supplying two analog measurement channels and four digital lines for standard sensing and low-power actuation. The mixed-signal layout reduces the need for separate slices when a station combines analog feedback with on/off devices.
The two analog channels each accept a differential input span of ±10 V, and their conversions are processed by a 13-bit converter, giving 8192 quantization levels for detailed monitoring of process variables. A hardware sampling engine runs at 500 kHz, so successive analog samples can be captured every 2 µs without overrun. The module also exposes four discrete terminals that operate at a field level of 24 VDC; all four can be configured as inputs, and the first two may be reassigned as outputs within the total of four digital I/O channels. When used as inputs, each channel registers a logical transition in less than 1 µs, allowing precise edge detection in high-speed machinery. This arrangement supports fast response where voltage signals and discrete events must be read by the same node.
Total source or sink capability on any digital output is limited to 0.1 A, making the module suitable for driving LEDs, relays, or transistor stages without external fusing. Mechanics meet a vibration endurance of 1 g from 10 Hz to 58 Hz and a shock resistance of 15 g for 11 ms, protecting signal integrity in mobile or press-line installations. The electronics are housed in an IP20 enclosure and are qualified for Overvoltage Category II distribution networks up to 2000 m elevation and 95% relative humidity. The housing is intended for protected control cabinet installation, where the module can share space efficiently with adjacent I/O modules and terminal wiring.
