The X20PS9600 is a power supply module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It feeds stabilized 24 V DC to downstream X20 slices and helps keep field wiring compact inside IP20 control cabinets. In distributed control architectures, the unit supplies the auxiliary voltage needed by backplane couplers and function modules so they can exchange data and actuate connected loads. This helps maintain stable operation across a modular node when communication and interface slices are installed side by side. Its role is focused on dependable rail power within a modular I/O station rather than on direct field-level signal processing.
The CPU/X2X input accepts 24 V DC −15 % / +20 % and draws up to 0.7 A, so the upstream supply must stay within this range to avoid undervoltage resets. From that intake, it provides 7 W of continuous output power on the internal rail, which supports several neighboring I/O modules before another supply stage is required. The CAN interface transfers status words and diagnostics at up to 1 Mbit/s, while the serial service port communicates at up to 115.2 kbit/s. These communication limits support routine diagnostics and service access without changing the module's primary power-supply role. A slow-blow 10 A input fuse protects upstream wiring, and the internal electronics consume only 0.6 W, leaving most of the available energy for the attached fieldbus station.
The housing has an IP20 rating for finger-safe installation inside control enclosures. Relay contacts on the supply backplane tolerate a continuous load of 10 A, and short-circuit-proof circuitry helps limit damage during temporary overloads. Neighboring units mount on a DIN rail with a center-to-center spacing of 12.5 mm, allowing dense channel layouts without extra brackets. The X2X bus draws only 1.42 W from the shared rail, and isolation barriers separate this bus from the PLC power domain to help reduce ground-loop effects. Parallel connection capability and approved redundant operation support fault-tolerant power distribution in machine sections that need higher availability.
